I've never read the full Bible before, but something said to start with the OT. I'm still only in Genesis and the geneology lists can weigh me down, but it has been so interesting. I'm ready to get through Genesis because I want to experience more!
Love this for you Cristen! Praying that the Holy Spirit guides you through the Word😊 I too have been weighed down by a lot of those monotonous parts lol thank you for reading and being here!
The OT is so rich—Jesus doesn’t make sense without it! If you’re looking for more resources as you read through The Bible Project has a great series called “How to Read the Bible” on YouTube, and my husband writes about lesser known OT stories for the The 7 Resolutions Substack every week.
Thank you for the resources Tabitha!😊 I agree, it is so fun and eye opening to see how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies and how He connects to what was written in the OT. I can’t wait to continue in my reading!😊 thank you so much for reading and commenting 😄
I love how much the OT sheds light on the NT! And yes, His holiness can coexist with his grace and mercy. He is a good God and he is oh so holy. I love that quote about the sun!!!
Man praise God that even though we have resistive hearts sometimes, I had that struggle reading John with this recent small group, he met us in his word as we carried on anyway.
The OT is truly where I learned more about God—the Father. Love the New Testament, and thank you, Jesus, for saving us once and for all. Getting to know God is such a wonderful journey. Understanding Him more and how He did things and why. Things He loves and hates. There are many things we can learn from the NT for our lives today; it is truly amazing! From the beginning, He has been trying to give us wisdom and knowledge! Blessings to you, Katie!
Another OT fan here👋🏾 I first read it through about 6 or 7 years ago, and I’m currently finishing up my fourth trip through.
It has enlightened and enlivened the gospel in ways that I could never have imagined. And once you become familiar with the themes from Genesis and Exodus—it changes everything!
Thanks for this honest post about your bravery and perseverance through the Old Testament. This year, I also took up the challenge and found gems along the way, of God's unchanging character, His long-suffering love and an identity to these rugged desert dwellers who could not let go and trust. Leviticus was a hard book for me. Very recently I listened to the BEMA podcast and it has greatly helped my understanding of the OT. Written by a Christian Jew with extensive knowledge of the OT and NT, it has provided a depth to the scriptures that I had not seen before. Below is the link to his podcast on Leviticus, an overview in one episode, that I highly recommend. Blessings to you and yours, Jennifer. https://www.bemadiscipleship.com/25

Psalm 136 is a beautiful summary of so much of the old testament and how it describes the love of God are beautiful but challenging.
